Alberta’s New Graduated Driver Licensing System

Renewing an Operator's Licence

Renewal forms for operator's licences are generally mailed to clients four to six weeks before the expiry of the licence. Renewals must be done in person. Only residents of Alberta are eligible to renew. Anyone 75 years or older is required to submit a medical report and have their vision checked. Medical reports are also required for holders of Class 1, 2, and 4 licences and for all licences with a condition code "C" endorsement. (Click here for Pricing)

Replacing a Lost or Stolen Licence

If your licence has been lost, stolen or destroyed, you may obtain a replacement licence by visiting our office. You will be required to present two pieces of identification. For a list of acceptable identification please call us at (403) 288-3333 or email us.

Exchanging a non-Alberta Operator's Licence

A valid licence from another Canadian jurisdiction can be exchanged for an equivalent class (Classes 1 through 7). Testing is not normally required, but a vision test and a medical is necessary when exchanging for a Class 1, 2 or 4 licence. Residency requirements must be met.

A valid licence from an American jurisdiction can be exchanged for a Class 5, 6, or 7 licence only. Residency requirements must be met before an Alberta licence will be issued.

Anyone coming from outside Canada and the United States is required to meet residency requirements and to undergo complete testing. Applicants exchanging a licence from Austria, Belgium, Republic of Korea, Switzerland, Japan, Germany or UK will not be required to undergo testing because of our reciprocal licensing agreements with these countries. (Click here for Pricing)

Identification Card

A photo identification card is available to an individual who is not the holder of a valid  Alberta Operator's Licence. The card is clearly marked for identification purposes and  does not entitle the person to operate a motor vehicle under any circumstances. To   obtain an ID card the person must bring in two pieces of identification, one preferably  a Birth Certificate. The minimum age is 14, and applicants under the age of 18 must  provide parental consent. (Click here for Pricing)

Driver's Record / Abstracts

A Driver's Abstract shows your driving history for the previous 3, 5 or 10 years. You may obtain your own driving record in person by producing identification. An abstract is a summarized record of all traffic violations during the specified period. It is useful for presentation to an insurance agent and for employment applications. A third party may obtain your abstract only with your written consent. Please see our Useful Forms section for the Statement of Intent and Statement of Consent.

If you are out of province and require an abstract you must complete a Notarized Request for Personal Driving and Motor Vehicle Information form with a Notary. This form must be submitted with a notarized photocopy of your identification (see acceptable ID listed on the request form) and return the form by registered mail or courier. The information will be returned to you by courier. Please contact us for price.
